Generic Betapace (Sotalol) is a beta-blocker medication that is used to regulate healthy blood flow through the arteries and veins for proper heart function and circulation. Generic Betapace (Sotalol) is a beat-blocker medication that is used to treat people with ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia. This medication helps regulate circulation and heart function for healthy blood flow through the veins and arteries. Generic Betapace is used to treat people with heart rhythm disorders in the ventricles (lower chambers of the heart).  Consult your doctor before taking this medication for either above mentioned conditions, or alternative uses.

Take Generic Betapace at the same time daily. Contact your doctor for the precise instructions that apply to you.

Inform your doctor and surgeon that you are taking this medication before you go in for any surgical procedure or medical test. Do not stop taking this medication without first speaking to your doctor, as suddenly halting treatment may worsen your condition.

Always read the ingredients before taking this or any other medication to ensure that there are no elements that may elicit an allergic reaction (See Drug Interactions for more information). Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following side-effects associated with an allergic reaction: hives, shortness of breath, swelling of the lips, tongue, throat or face.

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following serious side effects:

  • Decelerated, accelerated or uneven heartbeats
  • Fainting spells
  • Light-headedness
  • The combination of a headache with chest pains and disorientation or dizziness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Unusual swelling or sudden rapid weight gain
  • Excessive perspiration
  • Increased thirst

Less serious side effects associated with Generic Betapace include:

  • Mild dizziness
  • Upset stomach
  • Nausea
  • Mild diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Insomnia
  • Pain in the arms or legs

Additional side-effects may result from taking this medication. Consult a medical profession before taking this or any other medication.

Do not take Generic Betapace if you have the any of the following medical conditions:

  • Serious heart condition (especially AV clock, unless you are using a pacemaker)
  • Serious heart failure
  • Slow heartbeats that result in fainting spells
  • Asthma
  • A history of Long QT syndrome

Before taking Generic Betapace, consult your doctor if you have a history of any of the following medical conditions:

  • Heart disease
  • Heart attack
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver problems
  • Breathing problems (including bronchitis and emphysema)
  • Diabetes
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Electrolyte imbalance (including low levels or magnesium or potassium in the blood)

Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or plan on becoming pregnant before taking this medication.

Always read the ingredients before taking this or any other medication to ensure that there are no elements that may elicit an allergic reaction. Do not take Generic Betapace if you are allergic to sotalol.

Do not take an antacid 2 hours before or after taking Generic Betapace, as certain antacids may negatively influence how the body absorbs this medication.

Contact your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications before adding Generic Betapace to your treatment plan:

  • insulin or oral diabetes medication
  • diuretics (water pills)
  • any antidepressants
  • any anti-malaria medications
  • any antibiotics
  • medication to treat heart or blood pressure
  • any heart rhythm medications
  • migraine headache medicine
  • narcotic medications
  • medicines to treat psychiatric disorders
  • any medicine to prevent or treat nausea and vomiting

Always inform your doctor of any medications you are taking (including vitamins, herbal supplements, and over the counter medications) before embarking on a new treatment. Additional medications not listen here may interact negatively with your medication.

Do not take more than your recommended dosage. Take missed doses as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for your next treatment.

Keep Generic Betapace in a cool, dry place away from heat and moisture. Dispose of any unused medication past the point of expiry. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
